Started in 2000, BIA Solutions came about through a need to resolve a simple problem. A client had come to us asking if we could build a web site for them that would allow their non-technical staff the ability to update the site content.
So we started work on SiteControl™ Version 1.0.
This first SiteControl™ had to be complex, supporting both a flat informational site, and a smokestack of repetitive structures, but each with different content. Another way of looking at would be as a tree with multiple branches hanging from it, all looking the same as one another, but each having different coloured leaves.
After developing something that complex, we simplified the product and created SiteControl™ Version 2.0. This was a simple Content Management System (CMS) that allowed a non-technical user to maintain a single level web site.
SiteControl™ Version 3.0 started the migration from flat-file databases to MySQL and from Server-Side Include and TCL-based CGI technology to PHP.
SiteControl™
Version 4.0 built on the 3.0 base by adding a new set of core functionality built on the template model (note that all pages are accessed by going through index.php).
Along the way there have been a number of other projects that weren't SiteControl™-based. The most recent foray being into Political Campaign Management (and yes, our first candidate won).
While each step along the way on our growth path has been interesting, and quite a few unplanned, we can say that we have grown to where we are today because our clients appreciate doing business with people that care about them, not just a paycheck.
Which might explain why today we are getting as picky about who our clients are as they are about who they will have working with them. We don't want to be part of the business process (like EDS or other big-name companies), but we look at an engagement as a partnership, and we want to make sure that you, as our partners, are striving for success the same way we are.
Remember, any 14 year old with Frontpage can build a web-site. If you want a solution, then you want something a bit different. That would be us.
